The internet says everyone needs a side hustle. Your main hustle, apparently, isn’t enough. You must now hustle sideways as well, at night, smiling into a ring light, while your employer sleeps soundly in a house you’ll never afford.
I support this. A side hustle is a wonderful way to discover that your hobby, which once gave you joy, can also give you invoices, one-star reviews and a tax question you’re afraid to Google.
Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life. You’ll work every day of it, after 9pm, at a loss.
Follow these steps and you, too, can be an entrepreneur for one financial quarter.
- STEP 1Identify a passion.
- STEP 2Buy $600 of equipment for the passion.
- STEP 3Make a logo.
- STEP 4Make a second, better logo.
- STEP 5Sell one item to your aunt, at cost.
- STEP 6Calculate your hourly rate: $0.38.
- STEP 7Sell the equipment for $90.
- STEP 8Try to return to having a passion. It's gone. It was the first thing you sold.
