NETHER STOWFIELD TEEN DESCRIBES OWN BEDROOM AS ‘MY OFFICE’, ‘MY STUDIO’ AND ‘MY GYM’, HAS NOT LEFT IT SINCE FRIDAY

Room also serves as a cinema, a restaurant and, at 3am, a philosophy department.

A Nether Stowfield teenager has rebranded his bedroom as his office, his studio and his gym, and has not left it since Friday afternoon.

Finley Marsh, 17, says the four-metre room is “basically a multi-use creative space.” The desk is “the office.” A ring light is “the studio.” A single resistance band hanging from the door handle is “the gym.”

“I’ve got everything I need in here,” Marsh said through a gap in the door. “Why would I go anywhere? I’m building something.” Asked what he is building, he said “a routine,” and then closed the door.

His mother, Claire, said the arrangement had its benefits. “I always know where he is. I just slide food under the door like a zookeeper. Sometimes I hear a keyboard. Sometimes I hear a podcast about Roman generals. Once I heard him do a single push-up.”

Child development expert Dr Anthony Brack said teenagers creating their own space was healthy. “Having a room that feels like yours matters. But we also recommend sunlight, fresh air and seeing other humans in three dimensions, ideally weekly.”

Marsh has promised to leave the room on Sunday “for a walk,” which he has scheduled in his calendar and colour-coded green.

At press time, Marsh had described the landing outside his door as “my commute.”
